¡¥Zhoumei¡¦ is a small village (population about 1.800) located on Taipei¡¦s urban boarder. It is called the ¡¥last green field¡¦ within Taipei. Zhoumeis villagers are farmers, carpenters, and local craftsmen. Some years ago Taipei City Government placed a garbage-burning facility on the site, marked by a huge tower, painted in rainbow colors, which can be seen from all over Taipei. On top of the tower is a turning sightseeing restaurant, from which Taipei¡¦s city skyline can be enjoyed. Beside the good view ¡¥Zhoumei¡¦ is not a tourists hotspot and very much related to garbage. Not only the garbage-burning facility is transforming the site into an unpleasant place: the air is smelly, the rivers are polluted, a huge double highway is cutting the green field into pieces. Even so the government created a bicycle road on the riverside; the site is not inviting the visitor for lingering.

Para-site, is a parallel site to the given location, it has a sense of a virtual community in real space. The Chinese title (fei-chang-le-yuan)has a double meaning: the super paradise and a theme park. The parasite is nourished by the local community, but is creating its own infrastructure: bar, hotel, cinema, kitchen or restaurant, farm, temple and theater. All of these elements, created by artists, urban planner, designer and ecological specialists are for temporary use. The new community will support the site to attract visitors, and to put it back on the map of places to visit. ¡¥The last green field of Taipei¡¦ will become a camping site, holiday resort and a place to linger. Artists are asked to contribute to the new infrastructure, providing new temporary facilities or program. The local community should be integrated and involved to the new parallel site.
